Châtel has three main ski areas - Super-Châtel, Linga and Pré la Joux. These are linked by a free ski bus which runs every 15 minutes in the winter. However, Paddy or Jo will drop you off and pick you up at your chosen ski lift every day, so you won't be trudging around in boots and carrying skis!
Super-Châtel is ideal for beginners and intermediates, with its sweeping tree-lined blue runs. The Super-Châtel ski area links directly into Switzerland and the resorts of Torgon and Morgins.
Two minutes drive from Super-Châtel is the Linga ski area. The runs here are more challenging and they link directly into the main Portes du Soleil circuit, dropping down first into the high altitude Avoriaz ski area.
The Portes du Soleil is the largest international and linked ski area in the world. Here are some of the facts:
- You can ski in both France and Switzerland, crossing the border as many times as you like.
- The inclusive Portes du Soleil ski pass covers the resorts of Avoriaz, Abondance, Champery, Champoussin, La Chapelle d'Abondance, Châtel, Les Crosets, Les Gets, Ontriond, Morgins, Morzine and Torgon. They're all linked by lifts
- You'll find 303 runs, 650 kilometres of piste and 208 lifts.
So, there's great skiing for all abilities and masses of off-piste for the more adventurous.
Accompanied skiing
If you'd prefer to ski with someone who knows their way around, please just ask Paddy or Jo. It won't cost a thing, and the service is available for all levels of skiers and snowboarders, allowing you to get to know the area and make the most out of the vast skiing available.
Ski School
Whatever your standard of skiing, there are plenty of ski and snowboard instructors in Châtel. They can teach you all the essential techniques or simply help you improve your style.
Châtel has six ski schools which offer both private and group classes in skiing and snowboarding, including cross-country skiing and telemark, the latest free ride, mogul and free style techniques and even off-piste skiing.
The ski instructors teach children from the age of three using suitable facilities and techniques and taking strict safety precautions.
We'll be happy to arrange ski school for you - just complete the form we send once you've booked your Chalet Blanc holiday.
Lift Passes
You can order your lift passes in advance so you don't have to queue up on your first morning when you're desperate to get on the slopes. Again, just ask when you make your booking, and they'll be here when you arrive. Photographs aren't required for weekly passes.
We'd recommend intermediate and advanced skiers buy the Portes du Soleil pass. Beginners might want to stick with the lower priced Châtel pass.
Ski Hire
It's easy to book your ski, snowboard or boot hire before you arrive - again just fill in your requirements on the form we send you once you've booked your holiday. It's a very good idea to do this, especially during peak time - you'll save yourself hours, and reserve the highest quality equipment available.
You'll be taken to the ski hire shop to pick everything up when you arrive and there'll be someone there to help in case something doesn't fit or if you have any questions.
